Question 1Mergers and acquisitions have potential to impact significantly on employee morale. While some stakeholders such as shareholders may gain from mergers and acquisitions, the effect on other stakeholders are less than clear. Specifically the impact of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on human capital is far from clear (Blair, 1995). Different types of mergers and acquisitions have differing impact on post M&A employment. Actual employment outcome appears to depend on the complementarities between the parties to an M&A. Employees tend to be exposed to more job losses in vertical mergers than in vertical mergers (Nguyen & Kleiner, 2003). Similarly when acquisitions are made to reduce transaction costs employees have a higher exposure to job losses that where the objective of an acquisition is to expand upstream or downstream (Dutz, 1989; Williamson, 1975). This research topic is important to the business community because as argued by Shleifer & Summers, (1988) change in business ownership permits new managers to renegotiate the implicit employment terms of existing workers.Question 2A supply chain may be described as the sequence of events that lead to the production and distribution of goods.
