Drug Policy ReportIn the National Drug Control Strategy inauguration, President Obama discusses the new policies enacted to help curb illicit drug use in the United States. Initially drug addiction was perceived as moral fail. However, based on the latest scientific findings, drug addiction can not only be treated but also prevented as it is a disease of the brain. The strategies were put in place focusing on the main areas such as treatment, substance abuse prevention and recovery. His strategy plan is dubbed Prevent, Expand, Reform and Support.Prevention aims at preventing the use of drugs at all costs through effective education; access to citizens struggling with addiction will be expanded and reforms in the criminal justice system to break the crime, drug use and incarceration cycle. The foreword of this strategy was written by Steven Llyod, a doctor from Tennesse. He had experiences with criminals and patients struggling with drug and substance addiction. The policies and strategies developed were based on his suggestions on the possible ways of eliminating drug abuse in the country. Patients suffering from addiction will no longer be stigmatized. He also wanted the government to increase its focus on fighting drug and substance abuse by
