Currently, research aims to understand when and why students drop out of school (Jordan et al., 1996; Russell & Rumberger, 2012). There are many issues involved in this educational and social problem that currently affects society. Teens leave schools for a variety of reasons, majority being disciplinary problems, academic failure, family issues, employment opportunities and the social media. This paper explores a range of available literature to unveil influences that affect students’ decision to drop out of school, with the factors of interest narrowed down to four categories: the community, school, social media and family issues. Just a few decades ago, drop-out rates in high school students were slightly higher than they are currently (Jason, 2012). In Ontario State, for instance, there has been a significant drop in percentage of students who leave school.
