Discussion 5.1: The Slave Past & Hurston, Hughes, & GarveyHurston, Hughes, & Garvey differed in their views about the slave past based on the fact that each individual has his or her own way of experience concerning the black culture and slavery. They differed in the sense that, Hurston, having been born in the South, where she experienced racial discrimination, prejudice and poverty, did not focus on the miseries of the slavery period but instead looked at the black as people, who had a life beyond slavery.
