Colonialism began with the European exploration and discovery of resources and raw materials in foreign countries.Spain took over Central America by building its empire on the parcel of land given to it through the treaty of Torasillas. Spain chose Central America because of the advanced civilization among the natives especially the Inca, Aztec, and Chibcha. In addition, Spain wanted to exploit the resources found in those locations in terms of gold and silver.
