However, out of this population, the burden of mental illnesses is on 6% of the population. Further, mental illnesses are the leading cause of disability in the country. Economically, the mentally ill people are seriously affected, as they are dependent on other members of the family, who in many instances, lack the knowledge of how to handle such conditions (Lenzenweger, Lane, Loranger, & Kessler, 2007).
