This term means that the earth which is known as geo is at the center of the universe and all other heavenly bodies including the sun were moving around the earth (Barrow 1997). This notion was held by a majority of the ancient Greeks who argued in defense of the same that the earth seemed stationary and completely resting while the stars and the sun were going around it. Further the ancient Greeks believed that the movements of the planets were circular and not elliptical as pronounced in the modern age. Ptolemy account for the movement of celestial bodies was that the earth was at the center of the universe and all the other celestial bodies were moving around it in circular movements. He argued that each planet moved on an individual small circle called epicycle while moving around the earth on a larger circle called deferent (Barrow 1997).
