Motivating EmployeesMichelle StrothmanBEH/225November 15, 2013Joshua W. PaulMotivating EmployeesA manager most certainly has an influence on the motivation of his or her employees. By deciding what the more popular reward would be of the employees, the manager can then make the decision of which is more motivating. This could even be brought to a vote in which the employees have options to choose from. Intrinsic motivation is the reason for engaging in certain activities for the simple pleasure of it. External motivation is the motivation to perform a certain activity or behavior with the intention of a material reward or to avoid punishment (Morris & Mastrio, 2010). Intrinsic motivation can be encouraged by employers and managers in the form of acknowledgment of a job well done. This type of motivation can be from the employee feeling that there is a purpose to the work that is done. Another intrinsic motivation can be obtained by allowing employees to do the work in a way that makes sense to them while staying within policies, this can show trust in the employee and competence (Morris & Mastrio, 2010).. <span
