Measuring Quality 1Measuring Quality of HealthcareAxia College of University of Phoenix Measuring Quality 2 When individuals choose a healthcare facility to receive care they first look at the quality of healthcare they will receive. Excellent healthcare is the major attribute patients look for when making this important decision. Dr. Aredis Donabedian created a model to measure the quality of healthcare. This model consisted of three criteria: structure, process, and outcomes. Structure focused on the quality of the facility as a whole. The facility, equipment, and human resources were evaluated for adequacy. Patient’s safety should be number one when it comes to medical care. Process focused on the delivery of care. Every patient should be treated with care and compassion. A patient’s comfort should be considered whether it was emotional or physical (Axia College, 2009, Chapter 11, p. 192). Outcomes can be focused on patient status, patient satisfaction, and population status. There was always a variation to this process because every patient presented differently. With new epidemiology and computer technology, healthcare facilities could then produce what the best outcome for a patient would be. By analyzing data from billing records, patient interaction, and medical records, doctors could now
