Week 7 DQ 1 There are many security risks that affect a wide area network, just like any network. Trojan and Viruses are still on the rise and can be some of the higher security risks to a network. Trojan pose a high risk because once the program is running within the network, it starts to do a lot of damage and rather quickly. They can be difficult to remove and by the time that the Trojan is successfully removed from the system, the damage could already be quite severe. Some viruses can be just as harmful. Some of worst ones were the SQL Slammer. MyDoom, and PE_FunLove. MyDoom and PE_FunLove caused extensive damage within large companies and the lost information that was destroyed by these viruses cost the companies billions. The virus SQL Slammer created a hole in the Microsoft Office applications and gave the hacker full control of the users computer. It can be difficult to try and avoid all of the viruses that have been created and are just floating around on the Internet. The best thing that we can try to do to protect our system and network, is to rely on some great virus protection.
