The Information Systems Department Christy A. Gentry August 10, 2011 BIS 219 Research software applications and information systems are vital to any organization and its many departments. This essay will discuss three of those organizational departments. These three departments include accounting marketing and production or operations management. It has been said that the purpose of information systems is to get the right information to the right people at the right time in the right amount and in the right format (Rainer Turban, 2009, p 6). The main purpose of information systems is to provide a department with information that is useful to them (Rainer Turban, 2009). Research software applications and information systems is important to the accounting department. The accounting department performs many different business transactions that require the use of applications. Some of these business transactions include employees hired, paychecks written, and the sale of products or services. There are also many different ways that the accounting department might use information systems. Some of these include forecasting revenues or other activity, to ensure that their documents are correct and up to date, and to make decisions about what would be cost effective (Rainer Turban, 2009). The accounting information system
