Optimism vs. PessimismOptimists and pessimisms exhibit conversely different traits and approaches towards life which often appears like two ends of the same continuum. Whereas pessimists poses a negative view of the world in which they perceive to have no control over, optimists tend to look for the good aspects that can be derived from every situation hence appear to perform better in most of life’s avenues. Nonetheless, small and gradual efforts may enable one to change from being a pessimist to an optimist. Such changes may include noticing your own negativity, adjusting your attitude to take note of the positive things, and always giving yourself a positive feedback. Moreover, since both the pessimism and optimism states are determined by subconscious mechanisms, it is relatively possible for one to acquire either of the states. As such, a pessimist can adopt certain habits that may aid in developing an optimistic view. For instance, other than ruminate and lament on the negative situations, a pessimist can opt to engage in various events that require full attention hence get distracted from the negative thoughts and approaches. All in all, personal efforts seem to be the best way for a pessimist to become an optimist.
