Diversion ProgramADJ/215Diversion ProgramThe diversion program that I am going to be discussing in today’s checkpoint is the Kentucky Court of Justice’s Pretrial Diversion Program, which will be referred to as PDP for the rest of this checkpoint. The purpose of the program is “to help defendants before they develop long-term, destructive behavior” according to the PDP’s webpage.The reason why this program has been successful is that offenders are given a second chance all the while putting their victims and the victims’ families, their own families, and even their townspeople into consideration prior to committing their next crime (Pretrial). No matter the situation, I feel like if you put others into consideration before you do anything, you will be doing everyone a favor especially when crimes are in the mix because one would not want to do any harm of any kind to someone else.As for the target population of the PDP, it is strictly on a volunteer basis and can’t be court appointed and is open to offenders that have been “charged with misdemeanors or criminal violations” (Pretial). Examples of crimes that can be committed and the defendant still be eligible
