LAST NAME 1 FIRST NAME LAST NAME Professor Leen Kawas ENGL 001B 20 February 2025 Solteras: A Fresh Take on The Romantic Comedy Genre As soon as I sat down at my desk with my laptop propped open, the professor connected her computer to the screen and began playing the movie Solteras. The title of the movie was not familiar to me, nor had I seen anything about it online before. That meant I watched the film with an unbiased perspective, so I could not help but feel curious about what this movie might entail. After a few minutes of the movie playing, I could not help but roll my eyes. Great. It is a romantic comedy. I groaned internally as I prepared myself for an hour and thirty minutes of a predictable plot, a landslide of cliches, and unrealistic depictions of love. As the movie progressed, I found myself cringing at the cliches and feeling secondhand embarrassment from them. However , I was caught off guard when the film began to subvert some of these well-known cliches. Once the movie ended, I was pleasantly surprised by how it all wrapped up for the main character during the climax. Solteras
