The artist spent the summers in Santa Fe New Mexico in 1419. The landscapes offered him a new perspective that inspired his art. Sloan was an artist who was known for depicting urban life. However, this piece of art is a bit different. It doesn’t show the unfortunate separation of people that was normal at that time. He painted a diverse gathering of people, all there for a night of fun. The painting showcases those that were native to the land at that time. They included Native Americans, farmers, and the townspeople.What questions about human culture this art prompt?This work prompts questions about the separation of the people that existed in that day. However controversial the artist took a progressive outlook and painted a portrait that included everyone.This work also relates to questions about the progression of the time and how each artist internalized and expressed their reality through their artwork.What big questions do you think influenced the cultural work you selected?
