5-2 Reflection: Self23 EW 1Southern New Hampshire University 09:36:21 GMT -05:00Substance abuse has altered the way I perceive the community because I have seen both sides of the issue. I was the one with an addiction and afraid to reach out for help in fear of being judged or ridiculed. Witnessing friends and family making fun of people with addiction not knowing I was one of them.When I finally did get help and find a path to recovery I noticed allof those people helping individuals like me find recovery. Being respectful, compassionate and caring to those finding recovery. Educating the public on why they should not discriminate because this could be you or your loved one. Spreading the knowledge that no one chooses to be addicted is a brain disease and deserves care just like any other medical condition.Growing up I noticed my family members what they would say and how their body language would change when they noticed someone on the corner asking for change , or a young lady walking down a dark street late at night, or someone yelling and stumbling walking in a parking lot.
