pneumonia S/S {Ans: Fever, chills, crackles, rhonchi, SOB, chest pain, (productive) cough, fremitus, myalgias, sore throat, fatigue, restlessness, lethargy, splinting, tachypnea, use of accessory muscles, decreased chest movement, pleural friction rub, mental status changes}When administering a Metered-Dose Inhaler (MDI) do {Ans: Instruct the pt to breath in slowly/deeply Be sure pt is breathing through mouth Shake canister for at least 30 sec before removing cap If not used for a couple of days, point away from pt and press canister a couple of times Depress the canister as pt inhales Coach pt to hold breath for 10 secs if possible Use spacer device if available}Acute Pulmonary Edema (cardiogenic) {Ans: inadequate pumping function of the left ventricle that drastically increases the pressure in the pulmonary capillaries forcing fluid to leak into space between the alveoli and the capillaries and eventually into the alveoli}Crackles (Rales) {Ans: Bubbly, crackling sounds heard during inhalation.
