Two Approaches To System Development

Predictive approach assumes that the project can be planned in advance. It is used in the project that is well understood initially and comprise of lower risk. It is usually iterative in nature. Adaptive approach is flexible approach which does not rely on planning at the initial stage. It is used in the project which constitute of higher risk and is not clear in requirements and performance at the initial stage. This approach is best suited for solving the real time problems and always results in finding the new solution. There are variety of life cycles and long list of techniques and models used in different approaches. Both the above mentioned approaches are used in SDLC and activities of phase are similar. Phases are not always sequential and can also overlap. This is so because every problem is different, varies in complexities and the way of reaching to the solution. This field is too young and includes fast changes in technology. Every organization possesses different need and different view for the problems and for effectively solving different views.
