Being the instructor of Freshman Composition 101 I should convey to my students that documenting sources in the research paper or any other genre of write up is necessary as such documentation (specifically citation) “is both a signpost and an acknowledgement” (Hunter, n.d.). There are two primary reasons why students should provide proper documentation of sources. Firstly, if a student fails to cite the sources properly then he/she is violating the rights of that person who actually invented the concept, the theory, or the idea (Hunter, n.d.).
