The 13th amendmentThe 13th amendment makes it unconstitutional for someone to be held as a slave in the United States except for the punishable criminals who are duly convicted. For the whites, the end of slavery left the economy of the south in tatters. This is because the slaves were a source of affordable cheap labor that could generate a lot of income for the slave masters. For the blacks, who were majority slaves, the end of slavery marked the beginning of their socio-economic liberation. They could make their wealth and improve their living standards. The end of slavery allowed the blacks to start owning property and could then interact with the white in doing businesses. While all this was happening, some businesses like the plantations where slaves were working started failing.The “war drugs” was a governmental initiative to end the use, distribution, and trade of drugs. This involved strict measures and punishment of the drug dealers. It even involved the lengthening of the imprisonment terms for the drug dealers. There has been an increase in the number of prisoners. In 1972, there were around 300 000 prisoners while there are around a 2.3million prisoners. Earlier on, the number
