Executive Summary:Japan and South Korea, both have seen rapid economic growth and it is difficult to mention which one deserves a seat on the United Nations human rights Council. An assessment of the condition of human rights issues in both the countries shows that Japan may still have a long way to go and South Korea has been relatively better with regard to protection of Human rights inside its borders. The rapid economic growth has also brought immigration issues to both the nations and South Korea has proved smarter at handling these issues and preventing the exploitation of foreign workers. South Korea has tried to grant the immigrants same rights as the native workers. However, Japan has not still taken any open minded steps and immigrant workers are still arrested and deported in large numbers. Apart from immigration, there are other aspects also where Japan would need to improve further including children's rights. Its alternative care system has failed to give its children, independent and productive lives. Japan also needs to improve on other indicators like providing asylum. Checking on all these points, South Korea is in a better position and therefore should be granted the seat
