Dashboard metrics at Mercy Medical Center (MMC) show anample opportunity to implement a standard way of practice for patients with diabetes. Thedrawing of HbA1c levels in diabetic patients at the clinic is severely underperformed and fallsbelow the metric goals set by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). HbA1C is necessary to diagnose prediabetes and helps the medical team manage thedisease. With every patient receiving an initial test drawn, long-term blood glucose monitoringcan be implemented, resulting in better patient outcomes. According to the American DiabetesAssociation (ADA), all diabetic patients should receive at least two HbA1c tests a year, and morefrequently if there is a change in patient status, such as a change in medications or instability ofblood glucose levels (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019).
