Application of Nanotechnology to energy production One can define nanotechnology as that study in which manipulation of atom and matter takes place. Generally it deals with so small structures that range between 1 to 100 nanometers in at least one of the dimensions. These materials are known as nano materials. This new kind of technology has a vast range of applications in almost every sphere of life(1). As shown in above figure there are a number of applications of nanotechnology. Some of them are(2)- Space Medicine Electronics Food Fuel cells Solar cells Batteries Fuels Better air quality Cleaner water Chemical sensors Sporting goods Fabrics But here in this essay we are more concerned with the use of nano technology applications in the field of energy production. There is a long list of use of nano technology in energy related projects like enhanced renewable energy sources, energy saving and conversion, storage and manufacturing improvements by reducing process and materials rates. Nanotechnology has provided a comprehensive improvement in the production of energy from both conventional sources of energy like nuclear and fossil fuels and also from renewable sources of energy like sun, wind, water, geothermal energy, bio-mass or tides.
