Science skills practical Aim writingAim should be one or two lines about what you are testing“To determine if a basketball bounces higher on a harder surface.” Method writingShould be in past tense Include equipment used in each stepInclude quantities with unitsStart each step with a verb Specify how you are going to measure the dependent variable Example Tabulating and graphing data To make a table Figure out how many rows and columns needed Figure out which data goes in which column Label all columns Record the data into the table Normally the independent variable is placed in the left hand column and dependent in the right or across the top Quantitative – measurements gather numerical data (for example, the chemical reaction has produced 5cm of bubbles) Qualitative – describes a quality (for example, the chemical reaction has produced a lot of bubbles)To make a graph: identify independent and dependent variables choose the correct type of graph by determining whether the data is continuous or not determine values that are going to go on the X and Y axis and label them (include units) create a scale Graph
