How far do you agree?Elizabeth inherited the throne to a society that had undergone multiple extreme changes from Catholicism to puritanism, both religious choices resulted in devout chaos. To place control and peace over the country Elizabeth created a religious settlement to ease religious tensions and unite the country under one lenient religion. Despite the settlement being a strong attempt to satisfy everyone, there was always a threat from the extremists who were eager for Elizabeth to adapt the settlement in their favour. Puritans aims are to purify the church, this means they strictly follow the bible and are not open to compromises which poses a vast threat to Elizabeth. The rise of Puritan ideology in Elizabethan England had the potential to be a serious threat to Elizabeth, however, any attempts to promote Puritan beliefs were demolished quickly and effectively by Elizabeth that the ideas never began to emerge into anything serious. Elizabeth tactfully delt with any controversy which was brought up by puritans in a doomering way to assert her power and demonstrate the fact this was not a serious threat to Elizabeth. An example
