A lo t of people recognize Nigerian journalists power to checkmat e the Nigerian governments ill activities and policies. Many citizens can share testimonies about this fourth estate of the realm, exposing some sharp practices of some highly placed Nigerians who believed they could easily get away with their ill-activities and corrupt tendencies. But the Nigerian press has made them accountable for their evil a ctions. The former Speaker of Nigerias House of Represen tatives, Ibrahim Salisu Buhari, can share part of his bitter experience. Exactly 49 days after his election, he lost t he glamour of speaker ship and membership of the House because of certificate forgery and age falsificatio n, which was exposed by The News Magazine. Unfortunately, some me mbe rs of this vibrant fourth estate of the realm are found wanting in the discharge of their duties.
