According to Lebowitz, Niederehe (1992), self-reported happiness levels decrease with age until they rise again at age 40. Additionally, those who think becoming older is gloomy say it makes seniors grumpier. People who are unhappy in their younger years are likely to stay that way in their later years, and people with excellent dispositions also tend to stay that way as they get older.
