Supreme Court Opens Door For Lighter Sentence In Juvenile Murder Case

This paper will look at the case study of Kayl McCutchen’s case, “Antioch: Supreme Court opens a door for the lighter sentence in juvenile murder case.” Kayl McCutchen, who is 25 years old, was convicted of murder with special circumstances and sentenced a life imprisonment (Gartrell, 2017). The victim is Matthew Butler who had planned to buy marijuana worth $10 from McCutchen who double-crossed him, robbed him and shot him dead (Gartrell, 2017). The aim of the paper is to describe the characteristics of the murder case, discuss three theories learned regarding how useful they are in explaining this murder case. It will give an insight as to why the offender, in this case, McCutchen, committed the crime. These three theories are the biological theory, psychological theory and criminal justice theory. These approaches give different perceptions on why people commit the crimes that they do beyond what an ordinary person would reason in the society.
