Source B is a speech delivered by the head of CEDA, Gil-Robles in the December 1933 electoral campaigns, after the collapse of Azana’s government. The speech was presented to all of Spain. To historians this shows how displeased the majority of Spain was with Azana’s reforms, as in the December 1933 elections, CEDA gains the most deputies, becoming the biggest party in the Cortes, Spanish citizens no longer believed in Azana’s methods. In the eyes of the Spanish public, including right-wing members, Azana’s government tried to destroy the Spanish pillars of tradition. Spaniards did not want a monarchy; however, this did not mean they wanted power taken away from the Church and military, almost all Spanish citizens disagreed with the new anti-clerical reforms. The right gained support as they promised to repeal the socialist excess and restore the traditional pillars of Spain. Spain at the time was also suffering from the Great Depression,
