Issues in Terrorism and Homeland Security Author Institution Can the Department of Homeland Security provide adequate protection against future terror attacks Eleven days after the 9/11 attacks, Tom Ridge became appointed as the first Homeland Security Department Director, in the White House. The department oversaw and conducted a comprehensive national strategy of safeguarding the nation against terrorism and responding to any future attacks (Purpura, 2007). The signing of the Homeland Security Act, in 2002, led to standing alone of the Homeland Security Department. The departments counterterrorism tasks focus on three chief goals preventing terrorism attacks preventing unauthorized acquisition, movement, importation, or utilization of chemical materials within the US and reducing the vulnerability of crucial infrastructure and chief resources and main events to terrorism attacks or other hazards. In this assignment, I will discuss whether the Homeland Security is capable of providing adequate protection in regard to future terror attacks. The Homeland Security Department is adequately prepared for future terror attacks that can happen.
