Looking at a case like the O. J. Simpson’s murder case, there was public influence on the outcome of the case. Simpson was a popular Black-American football player married to a White woman Nicole Brown. When his wife was found murdered in their home, Simpson was the first suspect for various reasons. The police were in a hurry to arrest someone over the murder. In a few hours, Detective Phil Vannatter had already acquired a warrant to search Simpson’s house, while Simpson who was away on a business trip (Stewart, 1995). Simpson’s defense team on the other hand decided to put the Los Angeles Police Department led by on trial over the manner in which the department conducted the investigation and handled evidence leading to the arrest of the football player. The motive of Vannatter could have been influenced by the desire to close such a high profile case, and probably get promoted. This is internal politics. The jury was also politically influenced to acquit the player.
