Ethical Theories, Dilemmas, and Decision-MakingAuthorDepartment, UniversityCourse code: Course titleInstructorDue DateEthical Theories, Dilemmas, and Decision-MakingEthics are moral guides that aid in decision making process. They are not universal. Common theories of ethics are utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. Utilitarianism believes that ethical decisions should maximize happiness for the majority and also minimize their pain. Deontology believes in the fulfilment of duties. Lastly, virtue-based ethics mentions qualities that make an individual virtuous, thus justifying their actions. Influences That Have Shaped My Position on PositionI was once taking care of an elderly patient who was in a coma. The family of the patient had come a few times to check on him, but they had stopped coming since he could neither communicate nor recognize them. However, I had read multiple medical publications that affirmed thatpatients in a coma are not fully unconscious. Therefore, hearing familiar voices may help to speed the recovery process and awaken the unconscious brain. It also helped them to be familiar with their environment. Also a patient’s attitude towards recovery determines their recovery process. When the patient is stressed, their blood pressure rises and triggers inflammations
