CNC machining is a technology that is used in manufacturing and industrial applications CNC machining is special in that it is a subtractive manufacturing process rather than an additive manufacturing process. Additive manufacturing processes assemble layers of material to create the required shapes and designs. Subtractive manufacturing processes on the other hand remove layers of material from a piece to produce the desired shapes and designs. Thus to produce a part CNC typically employs computerized controls and machine tools shape the part by removing layers of material from a work piece. Therefore, CNC is especially suited to produce custom-designed part. CNC machining can use a wide range of materials, ranging from metals, plastics, wood, glass, foam, and composites.
