Where did Theories Come from: Neuman Systems ModelNameUniversityIntroductionMy name is Betty Neuman and I developed a theory known as the Systems Model to explain how living organisms are constantly interacting with their environment. The systems model is a unique, open based system that provides an integrative approach to solving nursing problems (Neuman & Fawcett, 2011, p.3). The model is dynamic because it focuses on the continous relationship a client/patient has with their environment and how stressors within that environment might cause a reaction. It also factors the variables that determine a patient’s response to actual or possible stressors and how stability can be achieved (2011, p.3). I will proceed to explain in the following paragraphs how I developed the theory.Theorizing StageThe need for this theory arose from observations during my teaching experience in mental health nursing. My graduate students expressed concerns with their course content because it did not provide adequate information on how to deal with problems during their nursing practice (Neuman & Fawcett, 2011, p.317). Nursing leaders also became aware that nursing practice should be more evidence-based and focused on the patient as a participant in the healthcare process. During the 1970s, when
