Dear Anabelle, Thank you for your post. I agree that both guidance and coaching are necessary in the recovery process. If a patient is not guided on how to manage their illness/injury, then they might not make a full recovery (Spross & Babine, 2016). The definition you gave about how guidance and coaching is different for registered nurses and APNs is also well researched. The role of APNs in patient education is much more extensive than that of registered nurses because they have more responsibilities in the healthcare system than RNs (Spross & Babine, 2016). This means that they have much more to cover with patients during guidance and coaching. I also like the point you made where there is no element that is important than the other. I agree with this because all aspects of guidance and coaching are needed if the patient is to have an appropriate treatment plan to help in their recovery.
