In March, 2109 President Donald Trump assented to the public lands bill that will provide protection for over two million acres of lands in the United States. In addition to designating 1.3 million new acres of wilderness lands as protected land, the public lands bill creates new national monuments in Mississippi and Kentucky. Further, under the Wild and Scenic Rivers program, the bill protects hundreds of miles of rivers. The bill which easily passed in both the House of Congress and the Senate assures automatic authorization for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)CITATION Mic19 \l 7177 (Greshko, Parker and Howard). This fund will utilize revenues from offshore oil and gas drilling to fund conservation efforts on public lands nationwide. The public lands bill significantly expands six existing national parks including Death Valley and Joshua Tree in California.
