Leadership Students Name University/College Leadership Abstract Emotional intelligence is an important characteristic of successful leaders. It determines how one interacts with other people and therefore their ability to relate well. Leaders need to use a leadership approach that suits the needs of their followers. They must follow the right process in order to arrive at effective decisions. This study dwells on my personal assessment of leadership and emotional intelligence. It compares the assessments to my understanding of the assessed aspects to find any contradictions and similarity. It then finds how the assessment results can be helpful and finally discusses ways of striking an alignment to ensure effectiveness in my leadership. Comparison of Assessment Results to My own Understanding According to my understanding, emotional intelligence entails the ability of one to regulate their emotions. One refrains from giving quick reactions in situations such as of anger. The emotional intelligence assessment supports this understanding as it addresses my weakness of often being overwhelmed by emotions. I understand that a leader should be emotionally intelligent by being aware of their emotions when they occur. The assessment utilizes the question of how one can be able to recognize their emotions as they experience them.
