People become anxious in presence of scary things. This is usually the normal reaction for a person. However, there are people who develop anxiety in absence of a fearful circumstance (Roy-Byrne, Craske Stein, 2006). Such people suffer from panic disorder. This is an anxiety condition that generates a panic attack, where a person experiences a feeling of loss of control. This paper discusses panic disorder. Causes of Panic Disorder The causes of panic disorders are not known. However, there are factors that contribute to the onset of the condition. These include genetics, extreme stress, individuals temperament where a person responds more to negative emotions and stress. In most cases, they are triggered by certain situations. Persons who have experienced the attacks before may tend to avoid situations or places that led to their initial fear (Beck, Emery Greenberg, 2005). Risk Factors There are factors that are associated with panic disorders. For instance, the conditions start in later years of teenage and early adulthood. Its onset, however, is less common in old age. In addition, more women are prone to panic disorder than men.
