Signature Assignment

This analysis is necessitated by the recent increase in customer complaints on downtime on one of the primary servers. We will apply statistical techniques on the down time data to extract information that is useful to the management. The following Pivot table created using Microsoft Excel shows the number of times during the month that the server was down for each downtime cause category. Memory errors accounted for the highest number of downtimes (about a quarter), followed closely by Weekly Virus Scans (about a quarter) and Lockups. The frequency of down time can be demonstrated with a frequency bar chart as below It can be observed from the frequency bar chart that manual restart and Slow Startup have negligible contribution to the frequency of downtime. The contribution of each problem to total downtime can be shown as a percentage of the total, to help make clear the individual contributions.
