Like other phobias such as anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia, there is an urgent need to be challenged Islamophobia by passing legislations that protect Muslims in the country. This is not to say that other religions should be suppressed in order to promote the Islamic beliefs, but rather, to criminalize speech or other forms of aggression towards Muslims because of their faith. However, not everyone believes that there is need to pass legislations to challenge Islamophobia. In his article “Surrender? US schools to REQUIRE Muslim indoctrination”, Allan West, A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army and an Executive Director and Chairman of the Board for National Center for Policy Analysis believes that such legislations are a form of Muslim indoctrination.
