Following the Civil War, societal issues, such as slavery were supposedly over as many US citizens joined hands to embrace equality. Besides, there was a major focus on the belief that people of all races are equal. Even so, the South and the West had remarkable differences in their perception of racial conflicts (Wyle, 2004).First, both the South and the West acknowledged that all races were not created equal. Even though there is a move to embrace equality, both sides believed there are racial differences that define every race (Weitzer and Tuch, 2006).
