Government and Promoting MarriageNameTutor’s Name25/09/2016Government and Promoting MarriageIn my view the government at all levels has no interest in marital relationships but can certainly play a role in creating an environment in which marriages can thrive. Promoting strong marriages and stable families is good for the welfare of citizens and ultimately the nation. Modern society has a more employed women and more single women in the past three decades than ever before. Labour force participation statistics indicate that the percentage of unmarried women in the labour force is 66 percent compared to 59.5 percent for married women. It could be argued that women employment made non-marriage more viable and changed marriage over the decades. It is common knowledge that falling marriage rates is related to rising unmarried parenting (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012). Census figures indicate that single parent families are more than 6 times likely to live in poverty compared to families with two parents. Thus government has an interest in promoting marriage to protect children and benefit society (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012).In the 1950’s marriage was supported by distinct gender
