Assignment 3: DiscussionThe reading, “The Economic Consequences of the Peace Treaty” by John Keynes presents a dark image of Europe in early 19th century. The horrors of war destroyed the economic foundation of Europe to the extent of destabilizing the future of Europe. I find the recommendations that Keynes proposes in the revision of the treaty of Versailles very effective, if Europe heeds the proposals. In a time of war, resources and the stability of a country are seriously hampered, therefore, joining the League of Nations and using the League to seek possible remedies to the economy is a very practical proposal. When countries pool together during a time of adversity, it makes more sense compared to each country working on its own strategies to revive the economy.The three pillars in the form of reparation, Iron, and free trade are progressive in nature and hold the potential of healing the economy. The reparation that Europe targets to earn from Germany’s destructive nature offers a very reliable financial base that can help the economy recover and create opportunities for the people to pick up the pieces and commence the journey of rebuilding their lives.
