The Israelites during their exodus from Egypt to Canaan came first hand to the wrath of God. Every time they moved out of the way of God and copied the behavior and practices of the people of the land, God punished them heavily. The issue of Idolatry was the core message to the Israelites from Egypt on the way to the Promised Land. Even in the beginning of creation when God Created Adam he spoke clearly about idolatry social injustices and religious ritualism. The flood in Genesis 6 was a result of disobedience people promoting sexual pleasure at the expense of pursuing the way of justice that God proposed to them. The same punishment appears during the times of Abraham, when Sodom and Gomorrah was, burnt for idolatry, and social injustices.
