Fences revolves around the lives of the Maxson family and the different relationships they have with each other. The play is mostly about the relationship each of the characters has with Troy the main character. Troy Maxson is the father and he is seen as a man who is pushing his will on his son Cory. However, the reason for his actions though misguided in my opinion, is that he is looking out for his son so that he doesn’t go through the same experiences that he Troy did. He is trying to protect his son but in doing so ends up hurting his son’s chances of going to college. In the beginning of the play, Troy is seen as a man who is ready to fight for the rights of those who are discriminated against for example when he finally becomes the first black garbage truck driver. However, as the plot of the play develops further, Troy’s character changes from a man with good intentions to being an abusive father who drives away his son
