HSCO 502 Faith Development discussionFaith has and is still the base of human development. Indeed, faith is one of the basic aspects that distinguish humans (us) from other animals. According to Fowler 2004, the concept of faith varies depending on an individual’s age. The author defines this process as the evolution of faith. Faith development is closely tied to other development stage and processes within an individual. An in-depth analysis of Fowler’s ideas, points to faith as a necessity. This implies that individuals adopt faith according to their own needs. For example the needs of a child are different from those of an adult, and therefore such individuals have different perspectives towards faith. In addition, faith is a knowledge based phenomenon, and thus a child with limited knowledge will have different perspective towards faith compared to an adult. For example young children conceptualize religion based on good and evil. They categorize events, things as either good or bad. Furthermore, they associate God with goodness and the devil with the bad things. This classification goes beyond things and events to animals and plants.
