The 45-acre site located near Jerusalem contains several museums and various research and educational centers. The largest museum on site is the new Holocaust History Museum, which opened in March 2005. The architect of this museum, Moshe Safdie, who is a leading international designer, concludes his book Yad Vashem—The Architecture of Memory as follows:“No design I have ever undertaken was so charged with symbolic associations.
