During the early years of the World War One, the U.S. remained detached since they did not want to be involved in the European war. The main problem that ultimately brought on their involvement was the German submarine obstruction against the Allies (Britain, France, and Russia) against the Central Powers (Germany and Austria-Hungary) which eventually sunk several U.S.A and foreign cargo ships, with a massive loss of American sailors. The German government announced that it would retain its obstruction of England and France so as to stop the provision of ammunitions and food to the Allies. On April 6, President Wilson declared war against Germany and congress agreed. After this declaration by the president, there was a growth in the number of those who were opposed to the war particularly the Irish and German Americans. They were afraid that the war would reduce the economic, political and social reforms that had been made. They were seen as disloyal leading to the imposition of restrictions to curtail such talks. These restrictions were enacted on a federal, state and
