Mexico is also the largest source of U.S coffee imports. Coffeewill be sourced from a coffee grower’s cooperative called the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Isthmus Region. The economic advantage of dealing with a vendor from this country is that Mexico has a government agency (The Mexican Coffee Institute) which works to keep coffee prices stable in the market. This means we would have less price fluctuations. Mexico is a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which facilitates trade between the US, Canada and Mexico. This means Tim’s Coffee Shoppe will not face trade barriers when importing coffee beans from Mexico.As a member of NAFTA, Mexico is has environmental laws that align with those of our country since NAFTA trade agreement strongly links trade and environment. The environmental agreement is contained in the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation a component of NAFTA and overseen by Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). This has established a Pollutant Release and Transfer Registry
