Week 4 DiscussionThis week I ask that we reflect on Jewish religious identity as it is constructed in a set of regulations for the Dead Sea community, known as the Community Rule. Read the document. Who are “the men of the Community who hold fast to the Covenant”? Who are “the men of injustice”? What makes “the men of the Community” special, distinguishes them from everyone else? How do they understand the Covenant? What is the community’s view of the Temple and Temple ritual? What does this document tell us about Judaism and ways in which Jewish religious identity was constructed? Does it remind you of any other religious movements (Jewish or non-Jewish)?The men of the Community who hold fast to the Covenant refer to Jews who have voluntarily accepted to be converted from all evil and to cling to the commandments of God. The commandments refer to the Ten Commandments that were given to Moses by God to explain what God expects of them. The will of God on the other hand refer to the commandments and qualities such as complete separation of the good men from the men of injustice, practice honesty,
